One occupation.
One five-year term.

Your Career Licence authorises you to work in one occupation for a fixed term. When that term ends, your next licence must be for a different occupation.

Read common questions

Check your expiry date

The expiry date on your card tells you when your current occupation term ends. A change of employer does not extend it.

Prepare before your term ends

Compare occupations, consider the training involved and plan the support you need before submitting your transition selection.

Apply for a different occupation

Your current occupation cannot be renewed for the next term. A submitted application is a request for review, not an approval.

Review the occupation and training information before making a selection. An application does not guarantee training eligibility, employment or a new licence.

You do not have to plan alone.

A change of occupation involves more than a new job title. Consider the support that will help you make the transition.

  1. Compare your options

Read the occupation descriptions and training pathways before making a selection.

  2. Choose your support

Explore adviser guidance, a self-directed guide or information about training and financial support.

  3. Review your next step

Check your selection and support preferences before submitting a transition application.

Common questions

Understand the rules before planning your next term.

How long is a Career Licence valid?

A Career Licence authorises one occupation for a five-year term. The card shows its issue date and expiry date.

Can I renew my current occupation?

No. Under the Career Rotation Regulation, the next five-year term must be for a different occupation. Moving to another employer does not renew or extend the current term.

Does submitting an application approve a new licence?

No. An application records your selection for review. Approval is a separate step.

Where can I see my licence details?

Scan the QR code on your physical Career Licence to open the record linked to that card. Individual records are not displayed on this public website.
